This made me laugh today

A colleague, knowing the marketing team's enduring love of Breaking Bad, spiced up the work kitchen with this:

Yes, the middle canister is labelled Blue Meth. It's actually coloured sugar. He also went to great lengths to source the exact same canister. Genius.

Meanwhile, this table, which you can only see a fraction of, holds the entire contents of my breakfast. And lunch.

I am eternally grateful the corporate slog is over for another year; me and my waistline can no longer cope with the calorific overload. The time has well and truly come for a sugar/alcohol/carb intervention.

Fin

"Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone..."

With apologies to the great W.H.Auden, we are about to do just that. The final ever episode of the global phenomenon that is Breaking Bad is about to screen. The characters are about to begin their final descent from a five-year journey through the circles of hell. If you have nails, prepare to chew them now...

I'm not sure how I am going to fill the BB hole in my life; perhaps by starting to watch them all over again? One thing's for sure, I am not best pleased at having to find out.

You know you are loved when

you get into work after a week off and these photos are stuck inside your laptop, one under another, nestled together like a Russian doll.

For those of you not familiar with the phenomenon that is Breaking Bad (why are we even friends?) these photos are of Jesse Pinkman, one of the main characters, who throws the term 'bitch' around like confetti. In fact, in a GQ interview, actor Aaron Paul said he cannot walk two paces without someone yelling 'Yo bitch', which has become his catchphrase. And yes, it looks silly on paper but when uttered by the stupendous Jesse/Aaron, it makes a great deal of sense.

While we're on the subject of sense, you may say that a woman of advanced age who's infatuated with a fictional character - and a junkie, ne'er-do well one at that - is ever so slightly bonkers. But I will pretend not to hear you.

So anyway, here's to the lovely boys at work who know of my love for Jesse and Breaking Bad. I laughed like a drain when I found these pictures this morning and stuck them on the desk next to me where they have been a source of amusement for the marketing team all day. I only have about six weeks of this contract left which is a big fat shame as it's one of the nicest I've had in a long time. But that's the life of a contractor...

A wet Wednesday

If you thought my weather obsession had run its course, you were wrong.

Today the conditions were to moist what Lindsay Lohan is to crazy. There were torrential downpours and huge walloping gusts that threatened to carry us to the South Island. Sometimes at the same time.

Not surprisingly, a friend cancelled a walk with the Hound and coffee in O Bay; instead, I spent seven hours arranging and re-arranging words on various pages.

There was tremendous news in the form of a commission from a mag I've been trying to land; I believe it's what's known in the trade as a 'big get'. I startled the Hound with my whoops of joy.

Later there was a Skype session with my beloved mate Lil in Auckland, who has not long returned from a fabulous vacation in New York. And bought a new apartment. So there was much to discuss. So much, in fact, that I didn't have time to make the lentil shepherd's pie (I can see the lips of carnivores curling from here) I had intended to make and instead had to chuck together a random assortment of rice, tuna and Thai chilli sauce.

Tonight there will be the fourth to last ep of Breaking Bad. I am already in mourning....

Breaking Bad

The wait is over. The psychotic Walter White is about to take his last stand - and Hank is finally going to get off the toilet.

Possibly the world's greatest writing and acting since the cathode ray was invented is about to come to an end in the final ever series of Breaking Bad. My good jammies have been ironed and the popcorn is ready. I need this the way a junkie needs his (blue) meth.
