A wedding

So I didn't make it to the actual wedding ceremony - at the top of Mt Vic - yesterday arvo as I had to work but I did get to the reception of my running group buddies, Brent and Ewa.

Sadly, because it was a school night, I had to be boring and leave before the dancing and general naughtiness began. And although it was odd to see my running mates wearing something other than lycra and sweat, we had a lovely time.

Tomorrow, at stupidly-early-o-clock, I fly to Melbourne for two nights; see you on the other side.

And here's the happy couple...when you run as much as they do, you can afford to have a wedding cake made entirely out of miniature pavlovas.

Melbourne for two nights? Oh go on then...

Another day, another media famil...this time to Melbourne for the opening of a fashion emporium.

I could, said the PR, stay on for the weekend at my own expense if I wanted. Under normal circumstances I most certainly would have - there's a friend from my London days who moved back there last year that I'd love to see - but I fly to Hawaii the week after for a 10-day media trip, so this Melbourne one will have to be shoe-horned into two nights.

The downside is that I have to re-jig my hours at the part-time day gig - and won't be able to attend the wedding of my two friends from the running group. Which isn't really making the corners of my mouth turn up. But when life hands you something on a plate, etc etc...

Best wedding invite ever?

It's far too tedious to go into but this week I swapped one of my working from home days from Thursday to Friday. A bonus was that I got two days uninterrupted writing space and have finished, drum roll please, three of the nine stories I currently have on my slate. Yay for me.

It also meant that, deep in Vienna-related research, I was ripe for a distraction. It came in the form of this cute wedding invite, which plopped into my mail box this morning from two of the founders of the Wednesday night running group (sidebar: I went back last night for the first time in five weeks. It hurt). As befits them, the wedding invite is in the form of a marathon entry, complete with safety pins. In fact, the envelope came stamped with the words 'Marrython Pack'.

In typical Brent and Ewa style, the wedding will be at the top of Mt Victoria and guests are invited to run with them to the reception afterwards. Am not sure I will be running but will certainly be there to cheer them on.

Neighbours - and a wedding

Yesterday was Neighbours Day Aotearoa which, apparently, is all about turning neighbours into friends. To mark the occasion, one of our neighbours hosted drinks, which was a chance to meet some very nice peeps who live around the corner. And to share horror stories with those we already know about some of the less desirable folk in our postcode (including the most hated house in the street where a disused fridge has, inexplicably, turned up in the front garden. There seems to be some kind of not-my-problem stand-off going on with the 800 residents - all of whom seem about 12-years old and very few of whom feel the need to hold down a job. Or sleep).

Sadly, we could only stay an hour as we were invited to the wedding reception of the Animator's old colleague Dylan and his bride Becs (first pic). Apologies for the poor quality of these images but the lighting was abysmal and, having dropped my phone far too many times, I fear it is about to give up the ghost.
