Canvas and Invercargill and Macau

There's a lot in that heading, I know, but I've just come back from two days in Invercargill for a story (the first time I've ever been there), am heading to Macau for six nights on Sunday for another story, and here's the link to the cover story of Canvas Magazine (NZ Herald) published last Saturday (click here).

Pics - the welcome I got from The Seriously Good Chocolate Company in Invercargill yesterday, where I did a choccie making class, as well as the cover of Sat's Canvas Mag. See you on the other side.

It's all about age

in today's Your Weekend and Canvas Mags where, by some stroke of luck, I ended up bagging the cover stories of both.

In the DomPost's Your Weekend Magazine, I chatted to some amazing women who found a new direction after 50 (click here to read), while in the NZ Herald's Canvas magazine, I put on my science hat to find out why testosterone is being touted as the secret to finding lost libido after the big four-oh (click here to read).

Are women really unhappier than men?

Yes, yes the Portugal pics are coming...but in the meantime, here's a story I did in Saturday's Canvas Magazine, about unhappy women (click here to read).

Mind over Mojitos

If, like most of us, you've had a wee too much to drink over the festive break, the concept of mindful drinking may be of some interest. Don't roll your eyes, there is some scientific basis to it.

I chatted to the British author of a new book about mindful drinking and wrote about it in the NZ Herald's Canvas Magazine on Saturday (click here to read).

Intermittent fasting

Could you go 16 hours without eating? It's what I've been doing for the last month or so - and I wrote about it for today's NZ Herald's Canvas Magazine (click here to read).

Mirror Mirror

A couple of weeks back I had the pleasure of interviewing actress/model/IT girl Cara Delevingne about her first YA novel (sadly not in person).

That story ran in Saturday's NZ Herald Canvas Magazine (click here for the online version).

Generation Graze

Back from Bali and there will be photographic evidence once I get past a few deadlines.

In the meantime, here's my story from today's Canvas Magazine (NZ Herald) on how and why we've become a nation of snackers. I also ask three Kiwi celebs what's in their snack boxes (click here to read).

Aural Agony

My story about misaphonia, the neuro-physiological disorder caused by certain sounds that literally drives people into a rage, is published in today's NZ Herald Canvas Magazine (click here to read).

I have to admit, when I was interviewing the Auckland psychologist about this little-known disorder, I recognised that I'm probably more than a little susceptible to this disease, but only in terms of nightmare neighbours and their doof doof stereos which make me want to do unspeakable things to them.

Thankfully, we have nice neighbours now but a few years ago, I had to put up with dickhead renters who were convinced that everyone had a burning desire to listen to their music as loudly as possible. I thought deeply, deeply bad thoughts about them and their even worse landlord who refused to do anything about it; I'm convinced there's a special place in hell for that chap.

Sex After 60

That got your attention, didn't it?!

I'm hardly the demographic but my interview with Marie de Hennezel, the French psychologist and author of Sex After 60: A French Guide to Loving Intimacy was published in the NZ Herald's Canvas Magazine last Saturday (sorry for the delay, am playing catch-up after being overseas for a week). Here's the link to the online version.

A Royal Night Out

Tonight after work, I was invited to a screening of A Royal Night Out , the cutest wee film about what Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret allegedly got up to when they sneaked out of Buck Palace on VE night in 1945.

The evening was hosted by the lovely Penelope Ryder-Lewis, who I'd interviewed a few years ago back for this story for Canvas Magazine. Penelope, who helms her own law firm, was celebrating 25 years of being admitted to the bar and it was a lovely, lovely night.

I'm about as far from a Monarchist as it's possible to be, but I adored this film, particularly the costumes. If you get a chance, go see it.

The bald truth

The NZ Herald's Canvas Mag runs my feature on women with alopecia.

HUGE love to these three amazingly brave and lovely women for agreeing to be interviewed and photographed (click here to read). One of the trio had never spoken of her condition or been photographed, so I am humbled and grateful for her willingness to speak to me. Thanks Dr Jo!
